My Quilty Pleasure

Block of the Month Quilt

Ready to build your quilting skills while making a beautiful Christmas quilt along the way? Join us for the first-ever Block of the Month at My Quilty Pleasure!

This program is beginner-friendly, but there’s something here for every quilter who wants to sharpen their skills. Each month, we’ll make a different block designed to teach you new techniques and build your confidence. You’ll learn how to sew an accurate ¼" seam, explore multiple methods for making Half Square Triangles, create Flying Geese, try your hand at paper piecing, and even add appliqué to your quilting toolbox.

And the best part? You’ll be learning these skills while creating a beautiful quilt, one block at a time! We’ll walk you through the techniques, share tips and tricks to make your piecing easier and more accurate, and give you plenty of opportunities to practice along the way.

Whether you’re brand new to quilting or you’ve been quilting for years and want to add some new tricks to your toolbox, come learn and have some fun with us! By the end, you won’t just have a Christmas quilt, you’ll have a whole new set of skills and the confidence to use them in your next project.

Here's How It Works

 1. Getting Started

Registration is $20.00 for this BOM program. All the block kits are free! At the first class in October (schedule is at the bottom of this page), you will attend the demonstration and receive your first pre-cut block kit. You will make the block at home and bring the completed block to the following month's class. When you arrive, attend the demonstration and show your completed block to the instructor, and you will receive the next pre-cut block kit FREE! It's that simple.

You must complete your previous block and attend the class demonstration to receive your next kit free.

2. Attendance Is Required

To receive your free pre-cut kit, you must personally attend one of the scheduled classes each month and participate in the demonstration. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Your block must be brought in by you. You cannot send someone on your behalf, and you may not simply show your block, pick up your kit, and leave. Participation in the class demonstration is an important part of the BOM program. Once the demonstration is complete, you will recieve your kit for the following month.

3. Choose the Class Time That Works for You

There are three class times available each month. You may attend whichever class is most convenient for you. Remember, if you don't attend the class, you don't receive a free kit.

You do not need to call ahead to tell us which class you will attend, and you do not need to call if you are unable to attend.

4. Please Arrive on Time

Classes will begin promptly at the scheduled time. Timeliness is important. If you come late, or leave early, you will not receive your free kit. If you cannot arrive on time, or stay for the entire demonstration, please consider attending another class.

5. If You Miss a Month

If you cannot attend class one month, you may purchase that month's kit for $5.00. When you return the following month with your completed block, you will receive your next kit free, provided you attend the class and participate in the demonstration.

6. Your Block Must Be Completed

Your previous month's block must be presented to the instructor at class to receive your next kit free. The block must be completely sewn. No pins, tape, glue, or partially completed blocks will be accepted.

7. Mistakes Happen

If you make a mistake in your block, don't worry! Please feel free to substitute a different fabric if needed. We may or may not have extra fabric of the original print available in the shop. If you would prefer to start over completely, you may purchase a replacement block kit for $5.00, while supplies last.

8. Age Requirement

Students must be at least 12 years old to participate in the Block of the Month program

9. Tools & Skill Building

This is a skill-building BOM designed to introduce you to a variety of quilting techniques and tools. Some of the tools used may be new to you. Featured tools will be available for purchase at a special discount on the day of class.

10. How long will this take?

There are 12 blocks in the program. Sashing and cornerstones will also be included, but they do not have to be completed to receive the next month's free kit. We want you to have all the pieces ready during the final month so you can assemble your quilt and complete the program in 12 months. Class demonstrations are expected to last approximately 30 minutes.

11. Keep Your Instructions

Please keep all of your BOM instructions! You will want to have them available throughout the program and when it is time to assemble your finished quilt.

12. Quilting Special

We are excited to give BOM participants a little extra perk. From October 1 through Oct 17, 2027 BOM quilts will receive priority quilting services. Bring your finished BOM quilt top during this time and we’ll move it to the front of the line for longarm quilting using the Christmas Lights pattern featured on our shop sample. Plus, you’ll receive 50% off batting! We can’t wait to see your finished BOM quilts come together.

13. The Registration Fee is Non-Refundable

By registering, you are reserving your spot in the BOM program. You may stop participating at any time if you choose, but the $20 registration fee is non-refundable.

14. The Rules Are the Rules

While some rules are made to be broken, these are not. Please do not ask us to make exceptions to the BOM requirements. Our goal is to keep the program fair and consistent for everyone.

15. How Do I Sign Up?

Call or come by My Quilty Pleasure to sign up and pay the $20 registration fee, 573-476-3779.
